Back to Camp Crystal Lake again. The twelfth (couldn’t they have made it 13?) Friday the 13th movie is apparently a remake of the first film in the venerable teen slasher series, so long-time fans will have a fair idea what to expect. Probably not the ideal date movie for February 14.
From Platinum Dunes and director Marcus Nispel ("The Texas Chainsaw Massacre") comes a re-imagining of the classic horror film series, "Friday the 13th". Searching for his missing sister, Clay (Jared Padalecki) heads up to the eerie woods of legendary Crystal Lake, where he stumbles on the creaky remains of rotting old cabins that lie in wait behind moss-covered trees. And that's not the only thing hiding behind the brush. Against the advice of police and caution from the locals, Clay pursues what few leads he has, with the help of a young woman (Danielle Panabaker) he meets among a group of college kids up for an all-thrills weekend. But they are about to find much more than they bargained for. Little do they know, they've entered the domain of one of the most terrifying specters in American film history-the infamous killer who haunts Crystal Lake, armed with razor-sharp machete... Jason Voorhees (Derek Mears).
When his sister Whitney (Amanda Righetti) and her friends disappear into the thick forests surrounding Crystal Lake, Clay (Jared Padalecki) comes desperately looking for clues as to what could have happened and where she could be. Despite advice from town police, Clay searches throughout the area and slowly begins to suspect that something just is not right about this town. With the assistance of teens Jenna (Danielle Panabaker) and Trent (Travis Van Winkle), who are spending the weekend at the lake with their thrill-seeking friends, Clay begins to learn the dark secrets of Crystal Lake, its infamous abandoned camp, and its most terrifying local legend... Jason Voorhees (Derek Mears). From producer Michael Bay ("Transformers") and director Marcus Nispel ("The Texas Chainsaw Massacre") comes a retelling of the classic American film series, "Friday the 13th"!
Despite the fact that the 2009 movie shares the same title with the 1980 original, the 2009 film is not a direct remake of that film. In fact, it will have very little in common with that movie, with the exception of its setting and date. The 2009 movie will be much like "Batman Begins" in the sense that it it a 'reboot' of the series, sharing no continuity with the original movies despite the fact that they share the same main characters.
